Ibrahim Katune, Dies At 74

A former chief executive officer of Arewa Hotels, Alhaji Ibrahim Katune, is dead. He was said to have passed on yesterday at his residence in Kaduna after a brief illness. His remains were buried at Unguwar Sarki burial ground in Kaduna at about 1.30 pm according to Islamic rites.

Katune, who died at the age of 74, was also a two-time commissioner for finance and education in the old Sokoto State, now comprising Zamfara and Kebbi states.

He is survived by a wife, five children and grandchildren.

Friends and relatives of the deceased have described him as humble, simple and very religious.

Speaking to our correspondents at the residence of the late Katune in Kaduna, his daughter, Hajiya Amina Ibrahim, said one of the legacies left behind by her father was education.

She said, “He tried to ensure that all his children acquired a very sound education. He was very frank, kind and generous; he always advised us to respect all and assist the less-privileged people.”

When LEADERSHIP SUNDAY visited the deceased’s house, sympathisers were seen trooping in en masse to condole with the family. A cross-section of the sympathisers also described the late Katune as a man of honour and dignity.

Katune was a very respectable public figure and was chief executive of several companies under the NNDC group. On leaving public service, he established a string of successful businesses under the umbrella of KAT Holdings Limited. He had served on the council of the University of Ibadan and was, until his death, a director of Siemens Nigeria Limited.

Among those who attended the burial rites of the late NNDC boss were; former military head of state, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari, Alhaji Mamman Daura, and other prominent northern leaders from different walks of life.
