65-Year-Old Man Arrested For Sexually Assaulting His Teenage Daughter

A 65-year-old man violated all the trust vested in him as a father when he sneaked into his 17-year-old daughter's room at night and unashamedly raped her.

The Zimbabwean man, Chief Sengwe, appeared before magistrate court and pleaded not guilty to raping his daughter but was nevertheless convicted after a full trial and will spend the next 15 years behind bars for the offense.

He was initially sentenced to 20 years in prison but was conditionally suspended for five years.

Representing the State, Sofia Busvumani said on 2 December 2010 at around 11pm, the accused softly sneaked into the girl's bedroom while she was asleep.

The girl heard that someone had entered the room and she asked who it was. The accused identified himself before threatening her with death if she dared scream or call for help.

The court further heard that he then forced himself on the girl. The next day the girl told the family herdboy about what had happened and he advised her to seek help from her sister who lived in the same village.
