Seven Gunmen Kidnap Son Of Edwin Clark, Ebikeme Clark

Gunmen on Wednesday at Kiagbodo in Burutu Local Government Area of Delta State kidnapped Ebikeme Clark, son of Ijaw national leader and former Federal Commissioner for Information, Chief Edwin Clark.

Delta State Police Commissioner, Ikechukwu Aduba, confirmed the incident and said that one of the suspects was arrested.

Ebikeme was abducted in the evening by seven gunmen at the site of the proposed Edwin Clark University of Technology.

He was whisked away from the scene in his Toyota Hiace Bus to a jetty, from where he was taken away in a speedboat to an unknown riverside location.

A suspect identified as the driver of the Audi Car that conveyed the gunmen to the scene was allegedly arrested by community boys and handed over to the police.

Spokesman of the Ijaw Youth Council (IYC), Eric Omare, told Vanguard on Wednesday that the officials of the organisation "in riverine areas of Ingbelebiri, Oporomor and Seimbiri clans of Delta and Bayelsa states have been diretcted to trace and fish out the kidnappers".

An Ijaw youth leader, Austin Yadah, described the kidnap as an embarrassment.

The incident is generating tension in Kiagbodo.

To recall, Ebikeme contested the 2011 elections to represent Burutu Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives.
