Arsenal are preparing to make a shock January move for Manchester United's Mexican star Javier Hernandez.

According to the Daily Mail, Arsenal officials are worried the workload of the club's only recognised striker, Olivier Giroud, could lead to the France international breaking down at a critical time of the season.

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has tried to lure Liverpool striker Luis Suarez in the past and has toyed with the idea of making a loan move for Juventus man Fernando Llorente.

The Gunners boss was also said to be interested in Brazilian starlets Boschilla and Nathan, who have starred for Brazil at the under-17 World Cup.

But the big rumour is the move for Hernandez, with Wenger confident he can snare the 25-year-old with the promise of greater first-team opportunities.

But the Old Trafford outfit have transfer plans of their own, with The Sun reporting the Red Devils face a fight for Benfica star Nemanja Matic.

The 25-year-old Serbia international has starred for the Portuguese giants since making the switch from Chelsea in 2009.

But a move back to the Premier League could be on the cards with United and Liverpool expected to battle it out for the midfielder's signature.

The Reds want Matic to add the strength they have been missing since Xabi Alonso and Javier Mascherano left for La Liga, while United believe he could end the search for Paul Scholes' replacement.

Finally at Anfield, Brendan Rodgers could set the stage for a January rush with the Mirror reporting that the Reds boss will let Raheem Sterling head out on loan.

The 18-year-old has found his opportunities dwindle under Rodgers, as the trident of Suarez, Philippe Coutinho and Jordan Henderson have been preferred behind striker Daniel Sturridge.

And with Sterling's football now reduced to appearances with the club's youth team, Rodgers will let him find some experience at another Premier League club. But here is the catch: Rodgers wants to strengthen before he weakens.
