Onwuliri's appearance before a House Committee postponed

The House of Representative Committee on Foreign Affairs on Tuesday declined to entertain the appearance of the Permanent Secretary in the Foreign Affairs Ministry, Martin Uhomobi, who represented his minister.

The minister, Prof. Viola Onwuliri had been scheduled to appear before the Committee to answer questions about the alleged sale of the Nigeria House in New York.

Chairman of the Committee, Hon Nnena Elendu Ukeje, who announced the rejection of Onwuliri's presence by proxy, also deferred the hearing in honour of late Hon. Raphael Oloye Nomiye, who died of hypertension Friday last week.

Onwuliri was to be joined by Uhomoibi; current Nigeria’s Permanent Representative to UN, Prof Joy Ogwu and the deputy, Ambassador Usman Sarki; Nigeria’s ambassador to the US, Prof Adebowale Adefuye; former Nigeria’s Permanent Representative to UN, Prof Ibrahim Gambari; current Nigeria’s ambassador to China and former Permanent Representative to UN, Aminu Wali; and former Foreign Affairs Minister, Olugbenga Ashiru.

To recall, the lower chamber had on November mandated Ukeje's Committee  to conduct a public hearing on the matter following adoption of a motion by Rep Yakubu Dogara (PDP, Bauchi).
