Whether To Seek Re-Election Or Not Is Totally Up To Jonathan - Maku

Labaran Maku, the Minister of Information and Communications and the newly appointed acting Minister of Defence, stated that the decision whether to run again for the office in 2015 or not, is totally up to President Goodluck Jonathan.

He said this in Abuja on Sunday night during the Pre-Centenary Service of the Lutheran Church of Christ in Nigeria.

Maku said that never had Nigeria developed so fast as under Jonathan's administration.

Minister noted that the President is addressing the deficit in infrastructure through systematic policy reforms that have started yielding results. The problem of power supply is also being effectively solved by the current administration, Maku said, adding that the construction of seven power plants have been completed, while others are coming on stream very soon. Besides, he disclosed that 32 road projects were completed across the country in 2012 as part of the infrastructure renewal.

Therefore, Maku stated, Jonathan deserves to seek re-election of he is willing to do so.

“All we need to do is to pray that elections are free and fair and that whoever contests with the President have a fair chance. That is what democracy is all about. Would you say that a man that has done so well like Jonathan should not contest?" he said.

Minister added that “We are not ready yet to leave our work, we want to work for Nigeria.”

Maku urged Nigerians to get confused by the ranting of the political opposition who are bent at misleading the public for selfish political reasons.

“Sometimes if you listen to politicians who want to contest the 2015 election, you will think that nothing is going on in the country but a lot of projects are going on now.

“It is only those people who lack faith that gets frightened when faced with problems; they predict that the country will collapse, that is people of insufficient faith, but for people of faith, when they face problems, they believe that God is beginning to look for opportunity to glorify His name,” the minister philosophically concluded.
