Military Take Over Otuoke After Jonathan's Cousin's Kidnap

Soldiers and policemen from Abuja have flooded President Goodluck Jonathan's native land Otuoke, Bayelsa State. This comes three days after Chief Inengite Nitabai, President's "adoptive father," had been kidnapped by unidentified gunmen from his own residence.

According to reports, security forces have taken over most parts of the said community and its sister communities, searching the area to find any traces of the abductors.

Local residents say the residents are intimidated by groups of soldiers and describe the efforts as "medicine after death."

One indigene said it was "high time the relevant authorities did what was needed to check kidnapping and other vicious crimes in the area."

The local resident also mentioned high rates of unemployment and shortage of electricity supply in the area. Every household has to resort to generators every day, and the cacophony of noise from them might have aided the gunmen to carry out the kidnapping without being noticed.

Members of Chief Nitabai's family are yet to be contacted by the abductors of the 70-year-old first cousin of President Goodluck Jonathan.
