Execution of Iranian Killer Stopped at Last Minute by Victim's Mother

Iranian sentenced to death was granted life at the last minute by the mother of his victim. A convict had a noose already around his neck when the mother of the victim approached him, slapped in the face and spared his life.

Incredible story that shook the whole world teaches us about mercy and opportunity to change any situation. Mother of the victim was merciful to save his life. She stopped the execution right when the noose was around the neck of Balal, the person who killed her son.

Balal is found guilty in stabbing an 18-year-old Abdollah Hosseinzadeh 7 years ago in a street brawl in Royan, a town in Northern province of Mazandaran.

The court ruled for the death penalty. The victim’s family was supposed to participate in execution by pushing the chair, on which Balal stood. However, the mother of Hosseinzadeh approached the convict, approached and slapped him in the face. Then she decided to forgive the killer of her son. The father of the victim removed the noose from Balal’s neck. Mother of the victim was leaving the place in tears, when the mother of Balal approached her, hugged her and they sobbed together.

Abdollahani Hosseinzadeh, father of the victim, said to Isna: "My 18-year-old son Abdollah was taking a stroll in the bazaar with his friends when Balal shoved him." He went on: "Abdollah was offended and kicked him but at this time the murderer took an ordinary kitchen knife out of his socks."

By Iranian laws, a person representing the victim may stop and cancel the death penalty, however the sentence will be charged by the officials.

Father of the victim has eventually come to the conclusion that Balal killed his son non-deliberately. “Balal was inexperienced and didn't know how to handle a knife. He was naïve," he said.

Balal ran from the scene of the accident, but was arrested by the police shortly after. The court came to the verdict after 6 years since it has happened.

The family of the victim deferred the execution several times.

The father of the killed boy confessed that his wife had a dream several days before the execution. "Three days ago my wife saw my elder son in a dream telling her that they are in a good place, and for her not to retaliate … This calmed my wife and we decided to think more until the day of the execution."

The family of the victim was asked by many public figures of Iran to forgive the victim and cancel the execution.

Iran is one of the countries with the biggest number of death penalties in the world.
