A source, who spoke on condition of anonymity said, the suspects began operation around 9pm, robbing residents and shop owners along Imude road, Shibiri.

He said when the suspects finished their operation, they went to an uncompleted building close to one of their member's mother’s house, identified as Kabiru, to share their loot, but unfortunately for them, a resident saw them and alerted the Neighbourhood Watch members who were on routine patrol at the time, and quickly swung into action and storm the building.

The source said Kabiru, was apprehended at the scene while the other five members of the gang managed to escape.

He said the vigilante group recovered four locally-made shotguns and cartridges from the apprehended suspect, and later handed them over to Policemen at Ilemba Hausa police station.

One of the victims, the suspects robbed that night, who gave her name as Alhaja, said: "Two commercial motorcycles with two passengers each, stopped in front of my shop. One of them brought out a gun and said I should co‑operate or he would shoot my seven-year-old child. I got really scared because he was pointing the gun towards my child. The other three also had guns.

"I brought out my sales proceeds of N17,000 which they took, in addition to my gold necklace worth N35,000 and my mobile phone handset. While they were still operating, my friend who had a bar opposite, noticed the unusual movement, walked in and asked what the problem was. When she got close, one of the robbers threatened and ordered her out" Alhaja added.

The suspect has been transferred from Ilemba Hausa police station to the Special Anti-Robbery Squad, Ikeja, for further investigation.
