'Abacha Sacked Me Because Of Obasanjo'

Over twenty five years since former Head of State, late Gen. Sani Abacha died, an ex-Inspector General of Police, Alhaji Gambo Jimeta has revealed why he was sacked by the former military Head of State.

According to the one time police boss, the late Gen Abacha decided to sack him because he made a suggestion that all political detainees that included Gen. Olusegun Obasanjo, Gen. Shehu Musa Yar’Adua and others should be released from prison unconditionally.

Jimeta also informed that it was like a rude shock to him and other members of the National Security Committee, when they learnt through the media that the job of the National Conference set up then was to write a new Constitution for the country.

Jimeta also told newsmen that as a delegate he was just doing his duty as a citizen of Nigeria.

He added that: “Wherever there is a positive endeavour to find solutions to what is worrying the nation, I will gladly go and do it not because I am invited or whatever.
