Mother of UK Man Killed by Boko Haram Says His Killers Should Be Swapped for Chibok Girls

Mother of a British man who was executed by Boko Haram says his murderers should be released from prison to satisfy the sects conditions for returning the over 200 girls kidnapped from Chibok town in Borno State.

Christopher McManus, then 28, worked as an engineer in Birnin Kebbi, Kebbi State and was kidnapped by Boko Haram in 2011. His captors shot him dead after holding him for 10 months, but were evenually apprehended and imprisoned.

This month, the sect has released two videos claiming responsibility for abducting almost 300 girls in April and offering to release them in exchange for their sect members who are currently serving prison time. The Federal Government have recently ruled out the possibility of dialogue with the terrorist sect.

Laura McManus, Christopher's mother, said in an interview with BBC her son would have approved of his killers' release if it helped to save the lives of the girls. She pointed out that Boko Haram get a lot more support that it's being considered, and the idea of dialogue with the terrorists should be embraced by Nigeria's Federal Government.

The woman symathized with the families of the kidnapped girls, as she recounted the horror of not knowing where Christopher was held and how we was treated.
