Calls For Jonathan's Resignation Unpatriotic – Anenih

Chief Anthony Anenih, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Peoples Democratic Party, condemns the "unpatriotic" behavious of those who call for the resignation of President Goodluck Jonathan at such a trying time in Nigeria.

In a three-page statement called "Let us unite against Boko Haram" and issued in Abuja on May 18, 2014, Sunday, Chief Anenih assured that President Goodluck Jonathan was doing his best to ensure the release of the over 200 Chibok girls still held in the Boko Haram terrorist sect captivity. 

He commiserated with the parents of the missing girls, saying that, as a father, he fully understands the horrors they must be going through.

He calls on all Nigerians, despite their differences, to unite behind the President and security agencies in the fight against Boko Haram by pointing out that, when terrorists took over the Westgate shopping mall in Kenya, the leader of the opposition, stood beside President Uhuru Kenyatta in handling the crisis. Chief Anenih also noted that, when their nations were plagued by deadly terrorist attacks, the Americans and the British were united and supported their respective governments and did not call on their leaders to leave their posts.

He thanked the United Nations, also the governments of of France, the United States and Great Britain for offering their help, and welcomed support from Nigeria's neighbours Chad, Cameroon, Niger and Benin Republic were on board.

Next, he assured that both the President and the ruling Peoples Democratic Party are fully committed to ensuring the safe return of the girls.

Chief Anenih has, therefore, criticized "some opposition politicians" who used this opportunity to call for the resignation of President Jonathan and seemed to quickly forget that Jonathan has replaced service chiefs twice since he assumed office in a bid to bolster the operational efficiency of the military.
