Omeri Denies Abduction Of 20 Fulani Women By Boko Haram

Mike Omeri, the Coordinator, National Information Centre has refuted the reports that another 20 women have been kidnapped by members of the radical Islamist sect- Boko Haram.

Speaking at a joint news conference in Abuja on Friday, Omeri, who described the report as misinformation said: “The story on the abduction of Fulani women is improbable; troops on ground have said no such report has been received.

“It has been confirmed that there is no police report to that effect that Fulani women have been abducted” he said.   

The NIC boss stated that the story may likely be part of the general misinformation being marketed to create the impression that the insurgents are inaccessible.

Omeri, who is also the Director-General of the National Orientation Agency (NOA), appealed to the media to exercise discretion in their reportage.

The coordinator further revealed that surveillance, air and land patrols were ongoing in the North-East and other parts of the country to curb the activities of the Islamist as well as other armed groups.

The NOA boss explained that occasional encounter between the troops and the terrorist had demanded continuous cordon and search in many locations.  

Meanwhile, the leader of Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria chapter in Borno State, Alhaji Amadu Musa, on June 12, 2014, Thursday, expressed strong doubts about the reported incident of Fulani women abduction.
