Woman Tried To Kidnap Baby Through Window, Caught By Father

A 31-year old woman was arrested for alleged attempt to steal a one-year-old girl from her parents’ house early this morning, the offendress is currently being interrogated by the police at Ajuwon Station for kidnapping.

The suspect, Blessing Aransiola, was caught red-hande by the girl’s father, Mr. Seye Adanri, 34, as she tried to escape the scence of the crime with the little girl, Oreoluwa Adanri.

The affected family lives at 21, Ademola Coker Street, Alagbole, Ogun State.

A 29-year-old mother of the girl, Mrs. Adebisi Adanri, narrated the incident at the police station where the suspect was taken tos.

The woman said that she was woken up by the cry of her daughter around 4.a.m.

Both of the parents came into the daughter's room and saw a baby, which usually slept on the bed by the window, in the suspect's hands crying.

The woman was trying to run away but the girl's father сhased the intruder and caught her.

Shocked mother raised an alarm to draw neighbours’ attention to the incident and everybody came out to assist them.

Later it was learned that the suspect got into her house by tearing the window net.

The affected parents also claim that the woman stole N5,000 kept in a purse.

But in her statement to the police, Blessing lamented that she was homeless and denied the crime.

In her defence the woman said that she was looking for a place to sleep when saw a terrace near the window of the couple’s house.

And when she was trying to sit down the net got torn. The woman claimed that she is not a thief or kidnapper as she was just wandering about.

Woman also complained about her health, saying that last year November she sustained injury on her leg and couldn’t walk properly again.

Later she developed problems in her eyes and since then she has been moving about.

The suspect who lives at 5, Modupeola Street, Iju-Ishaga, claimed that co-tenants conspired against her and labelled her a thief, adding that this made the landlord to send her packing.

Residents of the area warned that the police at Ajuwon should not try to cover up the case, as they were ready to ensure that the suspect would stand trial.

One of the residents, Soji Ademuyiwa, commended the parents of the girl for not sleeping with both eyes closed, saying that but for their alertness, the suspect would have taken the baby away.
