Abuja Bombing: Death Toll Rises To 75 As latest Details Of The Attack Are Revealed

Nigeria’s minister of health, Onyebuchi Chukwu, has stated that the official death toll from the Abuja bomb blast that occurred on Monday, 14th has increased to 75.

The Police had on Monday said 71 people died from the blast.

Mr. Chukwu stated this on Tuesday in Abuja after visiting admitted victims in various hospitals.

He also said that the total casualty (injured and dead) from the blast, according to hospital records, is 216.

“Currently, having taken everybody into consideration including the movement of people and some new deaths, what we have is a total of 216 victims,” Mr. Chukwu told journalists as seen in a Channels Television video. “That has been reviewed downwards because as of yesterday we were talking of 236.”

Witnesses of the explosion at a motor park in Nyanya, Abuja, however, said the number of dead victims were over 200; thus raising fears that the government is downplaying the casualty figure.

The explosion occurred during the rush hour, at about 6:30 a.m., when hundreds of people were gathered at the park, majority of them seeking to board buses to the Abuja city centre to resume work.

Meanwhile the Director General of the National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA, Mohammed Sidi said the agency’s information desk is open to the public always including for inquiries from families of victims, also stating that appropriate measures have been put in place by hospitals and other relevant organisations for families of those that lost their loved ones to claim their remains.

He called on citizens to be vigilant and report all suspicious movements to security agencies. He also advised citizens to render maximum support to emergency responders.
