Catholic Church Guards Foil Another Bomb Attack On Easter Sunday

A parish priest in charge of Saint Robert Catholic Church, Gbem-Tsambe in Vandeikya local government area of Benue State, Rev. Fr. Gregory Ugah has explained how the church guards foiled an attempt by suspected terrorists to bomb the church on Sunday.

According to Rev., Fr Ugah, the botched attack took place when the congregation were going on with Easter activities on Sunday.

It was gathered that some heavily armed terrorists suspected to be Fulani herdsmen stormed the Catholic church with arms and substances believed to be chemical weapon to kill the worshippers.

It was learnt that one of the insurgents had branched at a local market located beside the church and approached a woman selling food in the market with a pretence to eat but the woman did not understand the language he spoke and requested the assistance of an interpreter who during interrogation later discovered that the suspect was a Fulani herdsman. 

A source informed that when the suspected terrorists made a surprise incursion into the church, the church guards accosted them.

The situation was said to have caused confusion among more than 3,000 worshippers that had gathered at the church yard to commence celebration of the Easter vigil.

As a result of the confusion, reports said many worshippers were reportedly injured.
