Ghanaian Police Arrest Five Nigerians Over The Murder Of Nigerian Student
The gruesome killing of a 300level student, Godwin Awogbo of Social Sciences studying at the University of Cape Coast in Ghana in February has raised eyebrows with Governor of Lagos state, Raji Fashola, House of Reps and human rights group stepping in to intervene.
This pressure mounted on the Ghanaian government has led to five Nigerian students of the University been arrested in connection with his murder.
The students arrested pictured below are: Ogunsanyo Abayomi (A room-mate of the deceased), Jimoh Oluwatobiloba Timileyin, Oti Uchechukwu Chijooke, Obi Mnaetochi Brendan Ilozumba and Isaac Ifidon had apparently fled from the university upon discovery of the deceased's body.
It was reported that the 18-year-old Godwin whose lifeless body was dumped by the road side, with his internal organs gorged out and his hands, legs tied was said to have been killed over issues involving money.
Meanwhile a post-mortem examination has shown that the cause of his death was as a result of stab wounds to the heart.
However, following investigations by the Homicide Unit of the Police Criminal Investigations Department, Headquarters, Accra the deceased had borrowed his room-mate Ogunsanyo some amount of money to pay for his school fees but failed to fulfill his promise of paying him back, which prompted his reporting him to other Nigerian students.
Godwin was said to be last seen in company of his friend named Oluwatobiloba who had both gone to the apartment of his friend owing him money, where an argument ensued on February 18th, a day after his body was found.
The Police in Ghana said the suspects are assisting them in their investigations.
