How #‎BringBackOurGirls‬ Protesters Met Governor Kashim Shettima In Abuja

Protest movement held on May 13th in Abuja was led by the #BringBackOurGirls protest leaders to meet with the Governor Kashim Shettima to find answers in several questions.

The protestors' march was organized by Women for Peace and Justice, Citizen’s Action Group of Nigerians under the campaign Bring Back Our Girls, led by Dr. Oby Ezekwesili.

The questions the protesters wanted to ask included the safety of the schools in Chibok area, the area from which the girls were abducted a month ago.

Moreover, the protesters wanted to know what were the actions the government took to secure the release of the girls and what was the state’s role in Counter Insurgence Efforts.

In his turn, Governor Shettima responded to the questions referring to the girls as if they were his daughters. He explained that the schools in the area were closed for all students except the final year ones, who are about to take their final exams.

Governor denied the rumor that the abduction was fake and advised all the people to get information from the highest level of the government. 'The primary responsibility of any government is the protection of lives and property,’ he said.

Governor Shettima also added that they got a lot information about the movement of the insurgents, still denied to reveal it for the security of the girls.

Responding to the question on Counter Insurgency Efforts he said that the issue goes far beyond Boko Haram and includes very important issues like hunger, joblessness, poverty and hopelessness.

He also expressed his high hopes that despites the efforts of terrorists to divide the country, they have not succeeded.
