Photos of Soldiers in Sambisa Forest Shared by President's Aide Reno Omokri

Reno Omokri, Special Assistant to President Goodluck Jonathan on New Media, has, via his Twitter account, shared photos of Nigerian Army soldiers deployed to Sambisa Forest in Borno State to fight terrorism.

In a series of tweets, he assured that the Nigerian military is undergoing a major upgrading, and urged Nigerians to support the military instead of looking for reasons to blame and criticize them.

Legit.ng has previously received a letter of complaint from a reader who decried the behaviour of soldiers in the city of Aba in Abia State. Coincidentally, today Mr. Omokri has posted a number of tweets defending the actions of the military, pointing out that negative feedback generated by Nigerian mass and social media serves as another obstacle to their mission:

He also commented on the recent arrest of 486 persons suspected to be members of the Boko Haram terrorist sect:

It would be recalled that on Sunday, June 15, almost 500 persons were detained by the military in Abia State. The suspects have claimed their innocence, suggesting they were "job seekers from the North". The leader of Northern Nigerian Traders union, Alhaji Bala Matu has also stated that the detained persons were "genuine traders, patriotic Nigerians".

The Nigerian military officials and Abia State government, however, insisted on conducting an investigation into the case. During the screening process of the arrested individuals, a "terror kingpin" was detected by the military; his name and any information on him have not yet been disclosed for security reasons. The information has been announced by Director of Defence Information Major General Chris Olukolade and further confirmed by President Jonathan's Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Reuben Abati:
